Welding of 52kg rails 2RP / 3RP into LWRs using Contractor's own Mobile Flash Butt Welding Plant, consumables, labour, tools & plants with all lead and lift etc., complete on track under line block conditions, at various locations of TPJ Division of Southern Railway for TWR works as per the scope of work with all the preliminary works reuired for the work and as per Flash butt welding manual and special conditions enclosed and as directed by the Engineer - in - charge. The rate shall be inclusive of matching the rail as per rail end profile, preparation of welding. aligning position, striping of rail joints, grinding for finishing, segregating the defective welded panels complete.The released materials should be handed over to the Railway representative at the road approachable site shown at the field locations duly segregated and stacked as directed by the Engineer - in - charge.Explanatory note for works connected with welding : (i) Pre-grinding of rails on both ends for removing 4 rust, oil, and grease with suitable grinders upto a distance of 65cm on either side of web and end end surface of the rails using Contractor's own tools and plants and labour and consumables. (ii) Shearing of upset metal using Contractor's own stripping machine (in-built). (iii) All welds shall be indelibly marked with an individual number as directed by the Engineer-in-charge duly painting weld No., month & year of welding and the code of the welder with approved specifications for every joint with contractor's own labour, tools & plants. (iv) Grinding of welded joints on head top and sides to remove the upset metal and to suit the profile of the parent rail with suitable grinders using Contractor's own grinding machine, labour, tools & plants. Note: a)The Transverse test, Hardness & Macro test will be done at the place approved by Engineer in charge or in any one of the following test centers. (i)EWS/Arakkonam.(ii) CMT/PER. If facilities are not available/not functioning at the above locations, these tests shall be carried out at any reputed government institution such as IIT/CSIR etc., or at the recognized railway establishments in adjacent Railways such as SCR, SWR etc., b) All the tests specified above will be carried out by contractor, who should make arrangements for transportation of the test pieces from the site of work to the nominated place for testing and back to site, as directed by the Engineer in-charge. The rate quoted for flash butt welding shall include the cost of testing the welds and transportation arrangements. No separate payment will be made for this purpose.
