Carrying out the soil investigation and determining SBC by field work and laboratory studies including and comprising of :- (a) Mobilisation of plants equipments including men and materials required at site of soil investigation, setting of boring/drilling as required and demobilization of plants and equipments on completion of work etc complete (which includes conveyance of sample collected to testing lab as required for the purpose of testing). (b) Shifting of entire arrangement from one bore to another bore hole location and setting of boring/drilling as required and directed. (c) Drilling / boring 4’’ diameter bore holes upto 3.0 m depth (or refusal if met earlier) in soil strata with boulders, gravels. Arrangement for drilling / boring must be catered for by the consultants and no excuses for assuming any kind of strata shall be acceptable. “Open test pits of any depth (0.6 m to 3.0 m) will not be allowed to be performed as the sites of boreholes are in close proximity to the runway / manoeuvring surfaces.”

(d) Carrying out Standard Penetration Test (SPT) as per IS 2131: 1986 with special attention to following clauses of the IS: (i) The equipment used shall provide a clean bore hole, 100 mm in diameter (4’’) for insertion of the sampler to ensure that the penetration test is performed on undisturbed soil and shall permit driving of split spoon sampler to obtain penetration record and the sample as specified in the IS procedure. (ii) While driving the casing, it shall not be driven below the level at which the test is to be carried out or from where the soil sample is to be taken. (iii) In case wash boring is adapted for cleaning the bore hole, side-discharge bits are permissible, but in no case, a bottom-discharge bit is permitted. While boring through soils, which may be disturbed by flow of water into the borehole, no water should be added to the borehole while boring above water table. (iv) Collection of disturbed soil samples at every 1 m depth interval as well as at any change of strata. (v) collection of one undisturbed sample

(e) Collection of undisturbed soil sample at every 1.00 m intervals or at any change of strata in 100mm bore thin walled tube including waxing, sealing, packing transporting to the lab. (f) Conducting necessary test on all collected Disturbed/ Undisturbed/ SPT samples which includes the determination of soil bearing capacity (i) Atterberg limits (ii) Natural moisture content (iii) Wet and dry density, unit weight (iv) Soil/Particle size ( soil grain size) (v) Consolidation test including pre consolidation pressure. (vi) Tri-axial shear test (vii) Shrinkage limit (viii) Specific gravity test (ix) Direct shear test ( C & O determination) (x) Unconfined compression test (xi) Crushing strength of rock samples (xii) Free swell index (xiii) Soluble salt content (Sulphate, Chloride and PH content)
