Automatic, pilot controlled weir pattern hydraulic control valve, activated by the pressure of the pipeline. The valve is installed on a tee junction on the discharge manifold or the main pipeline, downstream the check valves of pumping station. The direct sealing diaphragm valve opens instantly, within less than a second, when loss of electric power is sensed at the battery- operated control panel of the RE/EL valve. The control panel energizes a solenoid valve, which opens the main valve. The valve stays in “opened” position until the returning flow arrives to the station, and will be sized to allow draining of part of it, so the velocity change of the returning flow, when stopped by the already-closed check valves, will not generate excessive transient pressures. Then the control valve starts closing by the command of a timing relay which stops the electric power to the solenoid. The valve closes gradually at an adjustable pace. In case of too-fast closure, that may cause pressure surge, the valve will function as a relief valve, re-opening slightly to increase the released flow rate- thus preventing over-pressure in the pump site. The high-pressure opening function is controlled by a hydro-mechanical pilot valve, adjustable by the operator. A drain pipe should be assembled to the outlet of the RE valve, to transport the drained water back to the pumps suction pit or to another location, where the high-velocity flow will not cause flood damage. The drainage pipe should be sized to avoid excessive velocity, that will create too-high hydraulic resistance and excessive side-stress in elbows. In most cases, the drainage pipe is larger than the control valve. An isolating manual valve must be installed upstream the RE valve, allowing maintenance when needed. The activation water of the control valve, including a filter that guarantees clog-free operation of the solenoid and the pilot, should be assembled upstream the isolating valve Specification: Main Valve - The valve shall be hydraulically operated, single chamber, direct diaphragm-sealing valve. - The valve shall consist of three major components: the body, cover and the diaphragm. - In Weir Patten valves, a diaphragm and a spring are the only moving parts, and the diaphragm itself is the component that closes or opens the liquid flow. Standard, integral flanged connection. It should be a simple design with minimal parts for operation and maintenance At no point the flow section area is less than 100% of the nominal diameter. The flow passage must be Streamlined, unobstructed. Floats made of naturally-buoyant material (specific weight lower than water). Air-filled bodies that may crash or deform under pressure are not allowed. Floating is additionally- supported by open air-traps within the main float. Only the top float is subjected to pressure differential. It is a solid robust item, tested at 150% of rated valve pressure. Hydraulic sealing of main orifice provides drip-tight closure at very low pipeline pressure. A solid back-up of the main orifice seal, on the orifice flange, provides a mechanical stop to the top float following high-pressure stress of the resilient seal. Thus, resilient seal is operating within its elastic memory zone. The floats, shaped as buoyant cylinders, centrally- guided, top and bottom, by stainless steel 304 shafts, which are not located in air flow area. The top float is connected to the main float in such a way, that the distance between the two may vary by a few mm. The gap is used to open the small orifice, when the main float is losing it's buoyancy due to low water level. A very wide, resilient, smooth flat face seal ensures drip-tight sealing at very low pipe pressure. The cross-section area of the small orifice in the top float is calculated to ensure separation of the floats, even at high pressures, when the main float is losing its buoyancy. The small orifice is made of SST316 and has a ‘self-cleaning effect’ design, ensuring that the small orifice is not clogged by small particles. Its narrow passage is very short and enlarged to a bigger diameter immediately. Under pressure, this causes an air jet that removes any debris and dirt. No plastic small orifice is permitted as it may wear out by the high flow velocities. In case of requested service, all parts can be replaced conveniently by unskilled personnel using ordinary tools. A shield disc at the bottom, having a larger diameter than the float cylinder, provides protection against premature closing due to a high outflow of the air. The cover of the valve and the seal flange are shaped in a way that any "blow up" of water during valve closure is diverted sideways. The cover design of the standard valve enables the attachment of a "Surge Arresting" device as an additional option. This can be done at the site, without having to replace or temporarily remove the valve from the line. Valve body can contain, on request, two 1/4" tapped inspection ports, above and below the float.
