GEM gives access to the online bidding process of the common goods & supplies required by the aforementioned bodies. Also, it aids in reverse e-auction (where the roles of buyers and sellers are reversed) and helps government officials optimally extract the value for money.
The system has an integrated payment system as well as an option for market search/comparison. This ensures safety while securing the best deal for the buyer and seller, both.
Another feather in the hat is the recent integration of GEM with the India Post. This has further facilitated the shipping of consignments, thus helping sellers (more than 40 lakh currently registered with GEM) keep their business up and running.
