T.1 Providing fitting and fixing of STRUCTURAL BAMBOO in all Truss (T) works in complete with dia including all joinery fittings. Selection of Bamboo:Itis one of the most important features of Bamboo Construction Technology because Bamboo is not a standard material varies in size & diameter, wall thickness and tapers towards the top. Therefore, Bamboo has to be selected on the basis of its size, profile and species. The Bambusa balcooah (Bhuluka –Assamese) available commonly in Assam is widely used for this purpose. Bhaluka (Bambusa Balcooa) is brownish green in colour and has distinctive tapers towards the top. It is favoured for construction because of its typical properties and fibers are compact and well built. After the initial sorting of Bamboo on the basis of its dimensional character (Size, Diameter, Height and Wall thickness) and maturity (5 years or above), it is then further cut and sized as per requirement (The average length for structural use from a single pole is about 18ft). The internode portion is now dressed and sanded for a smooth profile. Treatment of Bamboo:Preservation and Treatment of bamboo is the second most essential feature of Bamboo Construction Technology. As Bamboo is a lignu-celluloid (woody) material and rich in starch it is highly prone to fungus attack, powder pest borers and external agents attack. So the longevity of a bamboo depends on the effective treatment. There are various treatment methods and one such economical process used for Bamboo Construction Technology is ‘Internodal injection treatment’ method which can be done on site. Method of Internodal Injection with Creosote Oil: 1. Holes are drilled below the internodes of the bamboos using a 6mm diameter drill.
2. With the help of a wash bottle; 25ml of the creosote oil mixed with diesel in equal Proportions are poured inside the bamboos through the drilled holes.
3. The holes are then sealed by using putty or wax.
4. The bamboos are now allowed to dry under shade for 3 to 4 days to absorb the oil.
The bamboos treated by this process can be used for both internal and external use. By this process, borer, termites as well as fungi (decay) can be prevented and the durability of bamboos will increase. The bamboos treated by this method are used for poles (columns), purlins, rafters and other construction materials for house construction. Creosote is an industrial chemical used in road surfacing and needs to be handled with gloves and may not be permitted in certain areas.
NOTE: All structural bamboo works should conform to IS 9096 and non structural bamboo works should conform to IS 1902. Area of Use (specifications)
