To Support The Western Pacific Regional Office Implement Three Key Projects: 1) Provide Technical And Administrative Support For Regional Data Collection For The 2022 Global Status Report On Road Safety, 2) Provide Administrative Support For A Pacific Islands Injury Prevention Scoping Exercise, And 3) Contribute To Coordination Of A Pacific-wide Injury Prevention Forum, To Be Held In November 2022.   Background In The Western Pacific Region, Injuries Kill Nearly One Million People Every Year. Major Causes Include Road Traffic Injuries, Falls, Drowning, Poisoning And Burns, With 85% Of Fatal Injuries Occurring In Low- And Middle-income Countries. The Risk Of Injury Is Significantly Increased By Alcohol Consumption. The Sdh/vip Unit At Who Wpro Has A Vision To Reduce Injury Across The Region Through Primary Prevention And Through Addressing The Social And Commercial Determinants Of Health That Enable Injury, Including Alcohol Use. Sdh/vip Coordinates Across Different Sectors, Stakeholders And Agendas To Enable Settings Which Support People To Live Long, Healthy, Happy And Productive Lives. To Support Sdh/vip Achieve This Vision, The Unit Seeks A Consultant To Support Member States Conduct Three Key Exercises Aimed At Understanding And Addressing The Burden And Impact Of Injuries Across The Region. The First Exercise Is A Data Collection Activity On Road Safety, Which Will Contribute To Development Of A Global Road Safety Status Report To Be Launched In 2023. The Second Exercise Works Across All Pacific Island Countries, Aiming To Understand Existing Data Avaiable Relevant To Injury And Existing Polices, Strategies And Plans That Contribute To Reducing Injury Burden. The Third Exercise Involves Supporting Coordination Of A Pacific-wide Injury Prevention Forum Which Will Be Held In Partnership With The Fiji Ministry Of Health, To Take Place In November 2022. The Consultant Will Work In Close Partnership With Who Country Office Focal Persons, The Who Western Pacific Regional Office And Who Hq Focal Persons.   Purpose/specific Objective Of The Activity Who Is Looking For A Short-term Temporary Professional Officer/consultant Who Can  support The Western Pacific Regional Office Implement Three Key Projects: 1) Provide Technical And Administrative Support For Regional Data Collection For The 2022 Global Status Report On Road Safety, 2) Provide Administrative Support For A Pacific Islands Injury Prevention Scoping Exercise, And 3) Contribute To Coordination Of A Pacific-wide Injury Prevention Forum, To Be Held In November 2022.   Work To Be Performed Project 1: Provide Technical And Administrative Support For Regional Data Collection For The 2022 Global Status Report On Road Safety Attend Bi-monthly Project Management Online Meetings With Who Headquarters (hq) Attend Training To Operate The Project Web-based Platform Assist Regional Advisor (ra) In Defining Region-specific Road Safety Questions To Be Added To Common Questionnaire Assist Ra By Contacting National Data Focal Points (ndfps) And Confirming Their Participation And Availability For Regional Training Introducing Ndfps Data Into The Project´s Web-based Platform Assist Ra/hq In Setting Up Online Trainings And In Following Up After The Trainings. Support Ra In Preparing Agreements To Perform Work (apws) With National Data Focal Points (ndfp), If Need Be, And Developing Templates For Workplans For Ndfps, Support The Ndfps In Identifying National Data Contributors (ndcs) To Fill In The Questionnaires And In Setting Up Consensus (virtual) Meetings Among Respondents Within The Stipulated Period. Supervise And Support Ndfps To Collect Good Quality Country Level Data And Road Safety Laws. Assist Ndfps In Validating Their Country Data, Through Communication With Ndfps, And Hq. Clear Transmission Of Agreed On Answers To Questionnaire To Hq Ensuring No Written Text In Languages Other Than The Un Languages Are Included In Open Text Questions Highlighting (with The Assistance Of Ndfps) The Sections Of The Legal Texts That Will Require Translation. Follow Up With Ndfps To Ensure That Government Approval Is Obtained For Each Country Level Dataset. Be Responsible For Maintaining An Accurate Project Management Spreadsheet Indicating The Status Of Contracts With Ndfps And Of The Data Collection And Approval Process For Each Country. Assist With The Collection And Collation Of National Level Legislation. Assist In The Review Of The Draft Report Assist In Dissemination Of Report Upon Release Project 2: Provide Administrative Support For A Pacific Islands Injury Prevention Scoping Exercise Attend Bi-monthly Project Management Online Meetings With Who Headquarters (hq) And Wpro Ra Oversee Smooth Operation Of The Academic Institution Contracted To Lead Data Collection, Monitoring Progress Made Across Set Deliverables, Ensuring Quality And Timeliness Of Work Liaise With Who Country Office Focal Persons, Responding To Any Concerns Expressed And Providing Regular Updates On Project Progress Project 3: Contribute To Coordination Of A Pacific-wide Injury Prevention Forum, To Be Held In November 2022 Provide Administrative Support To All Components Of A Pacific-wide Forum On Injury Prevention, To Be Held In Nadi, Fiji, From The 22-25 November 2022. This Will Include, But Is Not Limited To: Support In Drafting Agendas And Other Forum Materials Support In Inviting Speakers And Technical Experts To The Forum Draft Invitation Letters For Participants And Track The Clearance Process At Wpro Track Government Participant Nominations (rsvps) For The Forum Brief All Participants With Meeting Logistics And Coordinate Travel Plans Coordinate Reporting Back Following The Meeting Through Wpro, Contributing To The Drafting The Summary And Final Meeting Reports   Planned Project Timeline Contract Start Date: 1 June 2022 Contract End Date: 15 December 2022     Place Of Assignment The Supplier Will Undertake The Work In Their Own Workplace/country Of Residence. Regular Communication With Who (by Vc/tc Or Similar) Is Expected.   Qualifications And Experience Education Required:                   At Least A University Degree Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Sciences, Communication Or A Related Field. Additional Education Is An Asset. Experience Required: • At Least Three Years Of Experience In Public Health And/or Unintentional Injury Prevention, Which Include Experience In Data Collection/analysis (such As Surveys, Datasets Or Structured Interview) Or Research Or Monitoring And Evaluation. • Demonstrated Ability To Build Partnerships And Work In Multicultural And Multidisciplinary Settings. • Ability To Work Independently. • Experience Working With Legal Documents Is An Asset. • Experience Working In Low And Middle‐income Countries Is An Asset Skills / Technical Skills And Knowledge: • Basic Knowledge Of Drowning Prevention‐related Issues Within The Region. • Good Management And Leadership Abilities And Experience. • Familiarity With The Goals And Procedures Of International Organizations (un System, Donors, Nongovernmental Organizations). • Excellent Inter‐personal Skills With The Demonstrated Ability To Work Effectively With Government Officials As Well As With National And International Organizations.
