Request for Quotation for Appointment of Service provider to render services of a consultant to support the gathering of paleoseismic data on local faults in the field and subsequent interpretation of said data to characterise the paleoseismic data on local faults. Data Collection and Interpretation The consultant is expected to play a key role in the gathering and interpretation of data from onshore faults encountered in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The purpose of this investigation is to establish the potential seismic source characteristics (such as three-dimensional geometry, segmentation, recurrence characteristics, and maximum earthquakes) of a small number (five or less) of key faults in the province. This work is likely to include a paleoseismic trench investigation in which the selected consultant is expected to play a leading role. The results of this work will be captured in a report, which will in turn be used to develop the seismic source model for a site specific PSHA. Working in a team This consultant will work as part of a team consisting of scientists from the CGS and external consultants. The team is led by a Study Leader to whom the consultant will report.
