The state of Telangana was formed in 2014, as a result of the split of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh. Recent and Upcoming Development Plans in Telangana

  • Telangana had 35 operational SEZs, 57 notified SEZs and 65 formally approved SEZs, as of July 2022
  • In 2021-22, the production of fruits and vegetables in Telangana were at 2309.96 thousand tonnes and 1682.28 thousand tonnes respectively
  • The state government has collaborated with pharmaceutical giants like Dr. Reddy’s laboratories and Laurus Labs, as well as academia to set up a FCTH (Flow Chemistry Technology Hub) at Dr. Reddy Institute of Life Sciences
  • Hyderabad has also attracted investments worth ₹7,500 crore in pharma, biotech and medical devices in 2022
  • Swiss giant Ferring Pharmaceuticals has commenced operations in Hyderabad at Genome Valley. The company has invested 30 million euros for this facility
  • Microsoft is setting up its largest Data Centre in the country in Hyderabad and will invest ₹15,000 crore over the next 15 years
  • In 2022, Granules India announced that it will invest ₹400 crore over next 2 years to backward integrate their products and set up a greenfield formulation facility near Hyderabad
  • The second Information Communication Technology Policy was launched in September 2021, that focuses on digital empowerment of citizens, innovation and entrepreneurship and taking them to global levels. Based on this, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the state government and Microsoft
  • Hyderabad accounts for 20% of India’s pharma export and is poised to grow to a US  $100 billion business generator by 2030
  • The total installed power capacity of Telangana was 18029.39 MW as of August 2022
  • As per the Airport Authority of India, the freight traffic at Hyderabad airport stood at 61.058 MT in FY23, until August 2022
  • In 2022, the Central Government announced the formation of an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) near Hyderabad to generate 1.5 million direct and 5.3 million indirect jobs in the IT sector in the next 5 years
