Tamil Nadu has seen tremendous growth and development in architecture, literature, performing arts and regional cuisine with influences from various dynasties like the Pallava, Chera, Chola and Pandya. Economy of Tamil Nadu

The most industrialised state in the country, TN is the second largest state economy in the country. Over 60% of the state is urbanised, with services contributing 55%, manufacturing contributing 34% and agriculture contributing 11% of the state economy. The major investors in the state comprise 52% by the government, 29.9% by private Indian investors and 14.9% by foreign private investors. The Economic Freedom Rankings for the States of India has ranked TN as the most economically free state in the country. Energy 

The Government of TN is committed to mitigate the reasons behind climate change by introducing policies that promote renewable energy generation in the state. TEDA or Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency is a registered society that aims to promote the use of new and renewable sources of energy (NRSE), conserve energy and to encourage research and development in the field. TN has generated 33,715 MW of energy in the year 2021 in total, using Thermal, Hydroelectric, Renewable and Nuclear sources.

Global companies are leveraging the already developed manufacturing system here making TN emerge as one of the major electronics hardware manufacturing and exporting states in the country.

Leather

TN is the national leader in finished leather production and houses over 1,650 companies related to the industry. It covers 60% of India’s tanning capacity and 38% in Footwear and leather products output. The major clusters in TN for leather are Ambur, Ranipet, Pernambut, Chennai, Erode, Vellore, Dindigul and others. 

Fireworks

Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu is the fireworks hub of India. Known as the capital of India’s firecracker industry, it houses over 1000 fireworks units, and 90% of fireworks output is churned out from this tiny town. The industry usually records a business of ₹7000-₹8000 cr every year.
