The required prior work experience for the bidder includes successfully completing or substantially completing similar works during the last 07 years. The specific requirements are:
* Three similar works each costing not less than 30% of the advertised value of each component of the tender.
* Two similar works each costing not less than 40% of the advertised value of each component of the tender.
* One similar work each costing not less than 60% of the advertised value of each component of the tender.
For subcontractors, the requirement is to have successfully completed at least one work similar to the work proposed for subcontract, costing not less than 35% of the value of the work to be subletted, in the last 5 years. A specific monetary value is mentioned for subletting of work, where no previous work experience of the subcontractor is required for work costing up to Rs 50 lakh.

- A = Maximum value of construction works executed and payment received in any one of the previous three financial years or the current financial year (up to date of inviting tender), taking into account the completed as well as works in progress.
- N = Number of years prescribed for completion of work for which bids have been invited.
- B = Existing commitments and balance amount of ongoing works with tenderer as per the prescribed proforma of railway for statement of all works in progress and also the works which are awarded to tenderer but yet not started up to the date of inviting of tender.
