Background A Disease Model Is A Mathematical Computational Model Utilising Multiple Sources Of Information To Determine The Current And Future Prevalence Of Disease And Conditions. Modelling Not Only Allows For Estimation Of Prevalence Of Diseases That Are Not Part Of The Routine Collection, But Also Allows Estimation Of Diseases That Suffer From Suboptimal Reporting Such As Sexually Transmitted Diseases. This Allows Determination Of The True Prevalence Of The Disease And Evaluation Of The Current Surveillance System In Place, Which Includes Both Communicable And Non-communicable Diseases.  Disease Modelling Is Also Becoming More Frequently Used To Understand And Evaluate Different Diseases By Projecting The Progress Of The Disease And Its Outcome. The Disease Models Can Thereafter Be Used To Assess The Impact Of Different Control Programs And Determining The Optimal Intervention Strategies In Controlling The Disease. Furthermore, Disease Modelling Enables Plausible And More Accurate Estimation For Burden Of Morbidities In National Burden Of Disease Estimations, Which Has Become An Essential Component In National Health Planning And Policy. This Would Also Aid Towards The Sustainable Development Goals, In Choosing The Best Intervention For The Diseases And Conditions Being Monitored. Developing Disease Model However Involves Complex Epidemiological, Statistical And Mathematical Knowledge. The Usefulness Of Any Estimation Obtained From Modelling Depends On The Inputs And The Sound Mathematical Analysis Behind The Estimations. In Malaysia, There Is Still A Lack Of Expertise In Developing Locally Relevant Disease Models. This Area Of Expertise Is Essential In View That Malaysia Is Still Strengthening Its Data Collection On Disease Prevalence And Morbidity, With Suboptimal Reporting From The Private Sectors And Diseases Not Picked Up By The Healthcare System. The Objectives Of The Apw Are Therefore To Increase The Level Of Understanding On The Basic Methods, Principles And Practical Application Of Epidemiological Disease Modelling, And Build Capacity Through Interactive Virtual Mentoring Sessions In Developing Suitable Disease Models Of Communicable And Non-communicable Diseases.   Purpose/specific Objective Of The Activity The Purpose Of This Activity Is To Conduct A Virtual Training Workshop On Burden Of Disease Modelling Including Interactive And Hands-on Engagement To Build Up The Capacity For Estimating And Projecting The National Burden Of Disease Among Personnel From Relevant Agencies / Stakeholders In Malaysia.   Description Of Activities To Be Carried Out Under The Immediate Supervision Of Whe Team Leader And Overall Supervision Of The Who Representative, The Incumbent Will: Work To Be Performed The Contractor Will Perform The Following Specific Tasks: I.      conduct Preliminary Consultative Meetings With The Public Health Institute Of The Ministry Of Health On Setting Course Objectives, Programme And Methodology.  Ii.    conduct A Series On Virtual Training Sessions On The Basic Methods To Develop Disease Models And The Application Of These Models.  Iii.    conduct A Follow-up Interactive Training Session With A Core Group Of Participants Selected By The Ministry Of Health, Incorporating The Use Of Local Data And Hands-on Application Of Model Development.  Method(s) To Carry Out The Activity The Contractor Will Work With The Institute For Public Health, Ministry Of Health On The Delivery Of The Following Activities: I.    perform Preparatory Work And Provide Support By Email, Videoconferencing, Meetings And Discussions With The Host Organization At The Ministry Of Health.  Ii.    prepare Training Materials Relevant To The Agreed Objectives And Methodology. Iii.    conduct Training Sessions Using Virtual Platforms In Collaboration With The Host Organization.  Iv.    provide Training Materials And Resources To Participants.  V.    review Final Output Of Participants’ Exercise   Outputs And Deliverables Output 1: Develop A Training Program Schedule With Relevant Resources For Participants And Identify Trainers/speakers.  Deliverable 1.1: Inception Report Of The Planned Training Sessions, Including A Course Objectives And Program Schedule.   Output 2: Strengthen Knowledge And Awareness Among Participants On The Basic Principles Of Disease Modelling And Its Application In Public Health. Deliverable 2.1: Produce A Workshop Report With Training Materials For Strengthening Knowledge And Awareness On Disease Modelling And Its Application In Public Health. Output 3: Build Capacity Among Personnel At The Ministry Of Health On The Utilization Of Local Data In The Application Of Disease Models In Relation To Identified Public Health Objectives. Deliverable 3.1: Produce A Workshop Report With Training Materials For Strengthening Knowledge And Awareness On Disease Modelling And Its Application In Public Health. Deliverable 3.2: Recommendations To The Ministry Of Health On The Application Of Disease Models In Public Health And The Further Strengthening Of Capacity For Disease Modelling.   Qualifications And Experience Institutions Or Research Groups Made Up Of Individuals Possessing The Following Qualifications, Experiences And Skills:   Education Essential: An Advanced University Degree In Public Health / Health Sciences. Desirable: Principal Course Coordinator/trainer With A Phd In Any Of The Above Subjects.   Experience Essential: A Minimum Of Seven Years Of Experience In Conducting Burden Of Disease Modelling, Including Communicable And Noncommunicable Diseases.  Desirable: Have Expertise And Experience In Conducting Training Sessions On Disease Modelling. Able To Work Closely With Local Institutions Within The Scope Of This Project, Utilizing Virtual Engagement Platforms.
