Background In The Western Pacific Region, Injuries Kill Nearly One Million People Every Year. Major Causes Include Road Traffic Injuries, Falls, Drowning, Poisoning And Burns, With 85% Of Fatal Injuries Occurring In Low- And Middle-income Countries. The Risk Of Injury Is Significantly Increased By Alcohol Consumption. The Sdh/vip Unit At Who Wpro Has A Vision To Reduce Injury Across The Region Through Primary Prevention And Through Addressing The Social And Commercial Determinants Of Health That Enable Injury, Including Alcohol Use. Sdh/vip Coordinates Across Different Sectors, Stakeholders And Agendas To Enable Settings Which Support People To Live Long, Healthy, Happy And Productive Lives. To Support Sdh/vip Achieve This Vision, The Unit Seeks A Consultant To Support Member States Adapt And Adopt A Range Of Strategies And Evidenced-based Interventions To Reduce Harm Associated With Injury And Alcohol Use. The Consultant Will Facilitate Engagement Of Multisectoral Stakeholders In The Injury Prevention/alcohol Agenda And Will Work In Partnership With Member States To Identify And Address Drivers Of Injury And Harmful Alcohol Use, Recommending Evidence-based Interventions To Address Priority Issues.   Purpose/specific Objective Of The Activity The Objective Of This Consultancy Is  To Support Wpr Member States Address Country-specific And Regional Priorities For Preventing Injury And Alcohol-related Harm.   Work To Be Performed Scoping Work Has Taken Place Over The Course Of 2020 To Identify Country-specific And Regional Priorities For Addressing Injury And Alcohol-related Harm. This Informed The Development Of A Targeted Workplan For Preventing Injury And The Harmful Use Of Alcohol In Wpr For 2021 In Response To Member State Requests. The Successful Candidate For This Role Will Work Closely With Colleagues At The Regional Office, And Injury And Alcohol Focal Persons At Wpr Country Offices To Lead Implementation Of Planned Activities. The Candidate Will Also Be Expected To Perform Other Duties Supporting The Regional Programme On Violence And Injury Prevention As Required By The Technical Officer, Sdh/vip/alc. Output 1:  support Launch And Dissemination Of The First Regional Status Reports For Drowning Prevention. This Includes Finalization Of The Launch Event Concept Note, Overseeing Invitations And Rsvps, Coordinating Among Speakers And Management Of External Contractors (ie. Multimedia Company). Deliverable 1: Coordination Of A Successful Virtual Launch Event For Both Regional (wpro And Searo) Status Report On Drowning Prevention, To Be Held On The 22 July 2021, In Alignment With The First World Day For Drowning Prevention. Output 2: Develop Regional Drowning Prevention Indictors, In Alignment With Key Findings From The First Wpro Regional Status Report On Drowning Prevention. Deliverable 2: A Suite Of Regional Drowning Prevention Indictors Developed To Support Implementation Of Recommendations From The Wpro Status Report On Drowning Prevention. Output 3:  collaborate With Partners At The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (rnli) To Revitalize The https://enddrowning.org/ website As A Live Community Of Practice (cop). Deliverable 3: Cop User Package Developed, Including General Platform Overview, Outline Of User Journey And Tors For Cop Members. Output 4: Support Uptake And Implementation Of The First Global Action Plan To Reduce Harmful Use Of Alcohol In The Region, Preparing Member States For Action Plan Launch And Developing Region-specific Guidance To Support Action Plan Implementation, Based On Outcomes Of Regional Consultations Held In Q2 2021. Support Delivery Of 'safer In Action' Capacity Development Activities Among Low And Middle-income Countries In The Region, In Close Collaboration With Who Hq And Searo. Deliverable 4: A Regional Alcohol Resource Package Developed To Support Dissemination Of First The Global Action Plan To Reduce Harmful Use Of Alcohol, Targeted At Who Country Office Focal Persons And Their Ministry Of Health Counterparts. Output 5: Finalize Development Of A Suit Of Regional Communications Tools And Policy Briefs Aimed At Reducing Alcohol-related Harm In Pacific Island Countries. This Involves Working Closely With Communications Colleagues From The Regional Director’s Office And With Country Office Focal Persons To Ensure C4h Is Applied Effectively. Deliverable 5: Suite Of Finalized Communications Products On Alcohol Related Harm, Including Policy Briefs. Output 6: Support Regional Dissemination And Uptake Of A New Who Technical Package For Fall Prevention: Step Safely: Strategies For Preventing And Managing Falls Across The Life-course. This Includes Liaising With Fall Prevention Partners From Across The Region To Identify Opportunities For Report Dissemination And Coordinating Translation Of The Technical Package To Relevant Languages In The Region, As Per Country Request (chinese And Mongolian Confirmed).  Deliverable 6: Plan Developed For Regional Launch And Dissemination Of Step Safely: Strategies For Preventing And Managing Falls Across The Life-course.   Qualifications And Experience Education: Candidates Must Possess At Least A Master’s Of Public Health Degree.additional Education Is An Asset. Experience: • Excellent Knowledge And At Least Three Years Of Experience Working In Public Health, Favourably In Alcohol Harm Reduction. • Demonstrated Ability To Build Partnerships And Work In Multicultural And Multidisciplinary Settings. • Excellent Communicator, Experienced In Developing And Delivering Technical Training. • Excellent Inter-personal Skills. • Ability To Work Independently. • Experience Working In Low And Middle‐income Countries Is An Asset.
