Description
Background Decades Of Rapid Economic Growth, Urbanization And Globalization Have Led To Tremendous Changes In The Food Environment, Especially In Low- And Middle-income Countries. Processed Foods With Little Nutritional Value But High In Fat, Sugar And Salt Are Now Readily Available And Heavily Marketed, Especially To Children. This Unhealthy Food Environment Negatively Influences Child Dietary Patterns, Driving Increases In Childhood Overweight And Obesity In The Western Pacific Region. There Has Been Considerable Progress In Reducing Childhood Undernutrition In The Region. Yet, There Were Still 11 Million Children Under-five Who Were Stunted In 2020. Meanwhile, Childhood Obesity Has Increased Dramatically, Affecting Most Member States, To Become A Serious Public Health Challenge In The 21st Century. It Is Estimated That More Than 8.8 Million Children Aged Under 5 Years Were Overweight In 2020, And The Situation Has Worsened Among Children Aged 5-19 Years With 84 Million Children Overweight Or Obese In 2016. This Statistic In The Western Pacific Is The Highest Among Who Regions With A 43% Increase For Children Aged 5-9 Years In Just Six Years, From 2010 Up To 2016. Evidence Shows That Marketing Of Breast Milk Substitutes (bms), And Food High In Saturated Fats, Trans-fatty Acids, Free Sugars Or Salt Influences Children’s Food Preferences, Requests And Consumption. This Has Been A Major Contributor To Overweight And Obesity, Which Is A Rising Public Health Challenge Affecting Most Of The Region’s Member States. Purpose/specific Objective Of The Activity Who Wpro Requires The Expertise Of An External Provider In The Production Of A Set Of Advocacy Videos To Communicate And Highlight The Overview Of The Nutrition Challenges In The Western Pacific Region, And Illustrate The Future Situation Should We Fail To Take Action Now. these Materials Will Aim To Address Areas Such As The Harmful Impact Of Food Marketing On Children, Childhood Overweight And Obesity, And The Promotion Of Healthy Diets. The Nutrition Unit Seeks To Contract A Multimedia Production Agency To Develop A Package That Consists Of Two Longer-form (2 Minute And 20 Seconds Min) Videos And 3 Microvideos. Soco (single Overarching Communication Objective) Viewers Recognize The Urgency To Take Action In Curbing The Escalating Rates Of Childhood Overweight And Obesity, For A Healthier Future Of This Generation And The Next. Communication Objectives: 1) Highlight The Remarkable Increase In The Prevalence Of Overweight And Obesity Among Children And Adolescents (5-19 Years) In The Western Pacific Region 2) Present A Bleak Future Scenario Of Children And Adolescents In The Region If Countries Fail To Take Scale Up Action To Address Childhood Overweight And Obesity Now 3) Call On Policy Makers To Take Urgent Action To Support Programmes Addressing Childhood Obesity, Food Marketing To Children And The Promotion Of Healthy Diets. 4) Present Current Efforts In The Region That Address Obesity Among Children And Adolescents, Including But Not Limited To Adoption Of The Regional Framework On Food Marketing To Children, Legal Frameworks That Promote Healthy Diets, And Actions That Address Double Burden Of Malnutrition; Efforts To Reduce Childhood Obesity Through Improving Nutrition And Promoting Physical Activity; Support Continuous Efforts In Promoting Nutrition In Building A Healthier And More Productive Future Generation Target Audience Primary: National And Local Decision And Policy Makers, Partners/donors Secondary: General Public Description Of Activities To Be Carried Out Under The Supervision Of The Nutrition Technical Lead, The Consultant Will Produce Of A Set Of Advocacy Videos To Communicate And Highlight The Overview Of The Nutrition Challenges In The Western Pacific Region.
