Background More Than 700 Million People In The World Are Over Age 65. More Than 240 Million Of Them Live In The Western Pacific Region, And That Number Is Expected To Double By 2050. The Pace Of Ageing Is Accelerating In The Region Due To Improvements In Life Expectancy And Declining Fertility Rates.  Wpro Rcm Adopted The Regional Action Plan (rap) In October 2020 And Requested Who To Support Countries To Prepare For Population Ageing. Rap Aims To Support Member States To Improve The Health And Well-being Of Older Populations In The Western Pacific Region So That They Thrive And Contribute To Their Societies. The Plan Is Guided By A Multisectoral, Future-oriented And Lifelong Approach That Adopts An Equity Approach And Utilizes Existing Assets To The Extent Possible. To Promote Objective Four Of The Rap, Technological And Social Innovations For Healthy Ageing, The Healthy Ageing Unit (age/dsi), Would Like To Discuss Possible Direction Forward With Academic Institutions And Health Institutions In Wpro Member States.   Purpose/specific Objective Of The Activity The Healthy Ageing Unit (age/dsi) Is Seeking To Engage A Skilled And Experienced Individual/institution/organization To Be The Simultaneous Interpreter During The Scheduled Meeting (online) With Chinese Academic Institutions, Medical Institutions, And Age/dsi Unit. The Contractor Will Also Cover Translation Work For The Pre And Post Documents/ Materials For The Activity.   Description Of Activities To Be Carried Out Output/s Output 1 - To Provide Simultaneous Interpretation From English To Chinese (mandarin) And Vice Versa As     Required On Virtual Meetings (2-3 Hours Each Meeting); Output 2 - To Translate Meeting Documents From English To Chinese And Vice Versa As Required.   Methods To Carry Out The Activity • Join Meeting Online/in-person (if Needed And Possible) To Provide Simultaneous Translation • Translate Relevant Documents Pre-/post- Meeting As Needed (concept Note And Post-meeting Summary) – 2 Times/ Month • Prepare For Simultaneous Translation By Being Familiar With The Technical Content (to Be Provided By Age/dsi Prior To Meetings)   Qualifications & Experience • At Least 5 Years' Experience In Interpreting And Translating Chinese (mandarin) To English And Vice Versa With A Live Audience Both At International And National Level; • Highly Motivated With Excellent And Interpersonal Communication Skills In English And Chinese.   Technical Skills & Knowledge • Ability To Work Under Minimum Supervision; • Able To Focus On Details And Maintain High Quality Output; • Excellent Communication, Writing And Translation Skills In Complex Areas; • Previous Experience As A Translator/ Interpreter In Who Or Other Un Agency Is Highly Desirable.   Languages Native/advanced Level Of English And Chinese (mandarin)   Competencies • Communication • Planning • organizing • Teamwork   Additional Information • Duration Of Contract Is From 10 August To 31 December 2021 • Work To Be Done Remotely   Applications Qualified And Interested Specialists Should Submit Their Cv {for Individual Contractors}, Expression Of Interest {cover Letter} And Cost Proposal To The Supply Officer Through Wp Ro Ungm At < Wproungm@who.int > By 3 August 2021.  The Cover Letter Should Outline How Their Experience And Qualifications Make Them A Suitable Candidate For This Position And Should Include Their Proposed Daily Consultancy Fee And Availability.
