Monkton Terrace Footbridge Parapet Replacement and General Maintenance-The Monkton Terrace Footbridges were constructed in circa 1974. They comprise two separate structures supporting public footpaths. Each bridge sits either side of the Network Rail bridge (masonry arch) which carries the main carriageway of Monkton Terrace. The structures carry pedestrians and cyclists over two railway lines. The northern line is owned by Network Rail and carries goods traffic to and from the Shell Oil Refinery in Jarrow.
