A quick guide to PWD Delhi

CPWD or Central Public Works Department is a premier Central Government authority. It is in charge of public sector works. It comes under the Ministry of Urban Development now known as MoHUA (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs).

PWD Delhi is an arm of CPWD and is a premier agency of the Government of Delhi. The PWD Delhi works independently, under the administrative control of the government of Delhi.

What does PWD Delhi do?

Infrastructure is an important aspect of the Government and the public sector. That is where PWD Delhi plays a major role by the means of releasing tenders for these infrastructure projects. It is crucial for the development of a country. For example, a well-constructed road will ensure efficient transportation systems that aid in the development of a nation by contributing to its economy. It is involved in planning, designing, construction and maintenance of government assets in the field of infrastructure development and built environments along with their preservation. Infrastructure development projects involve -Roads, Bridges, Flyovers, Footpaths, Subways etc. Some of the built environment projects include – Hospitals, Schools, Colleges, Technical institutes, Police buildings, Prisons and Courts.

PWD Delhi also sustains and preserves these assets through a well-developed system of maintenance, which includes other than specialised services, works like rehabilitation works, road signage, aesthetic treatments like monument lighting, landscaping etc..

It has been nurturing lakhs of trees and thousands of acres of lawns and gardens on PWD roads, government colonies and offices premises to provide a green Delhi and to minimise pollution.

On 23rd of January 2023, a few projects were announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that included repair work of 1,400 km of roads in the state that fall under the PWD. Some projects included hiring hundreds of sprinklers for washing roads and areas of the MCD. So, there is a constant requirement for situational awareness concerning tender announcements for interested businesses/bidders.
