Formation history of Coal India Limited
Coal India Limited (CIL) is a state owned coal mining corporation which was formed in November of 1975. Starting with a modest production of 79 Million Tonnes (MTs) in the year of its inception; today CIL is the single largest coal producer in the world. It is also one of the largest corporate employers having a manpower of 248,550 (as of April, 2022). Coal India operates through its subsidiaries in 84 mining areas that are spread over 8 Indian states. There are 116 ongoing Mining projects of Coal India, having 915.36 MTY annual capacity that have contributed 456.28 MT in 2021-22.
