The Institute for Information Security and Communication Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology is establishing a Hardware Reverse Engineering (HRE) Laboratory at the Gjøvik Campus. The HRE laboratory will facilitate practical experimentation, research, knowledge creation, communication, and will educate and train the future generation in machine security in academia, authorities, and industry through creating new knowledge and best practice. We are establishing a Side Channel Analysis (SCA) setup and error injection setup as part of the HRE laboratory. The side channel analysis tool must be able to extract and register traces from electricity, electromagnetic radiation, timing, and radio frequency for micro-controllers, smartcards, and FPGA based built-in systems. The error injection setup will support voltage errors and electromagnetic errors for micro-controllers, smart cards, and FPGA based built-in systems.
