The CACHET initiative executed by IFAD seeks to mitigate mounting risks linked to climate change trend and price volatility by providing governments, private sector operators, and smallholders with products to protect smallholders’ revenues. Ultimately, the objective of CACHET is the mitigation of price volatility and climate risks to foster a more stable income generation for producers. CACHET’s goal is to mainstream revenue protection against climate related risks and price volatility – notably for export - in IFAD’s activities, where relevant and possible. This step of CACHET project will focus on scaling up its main objectives by intervening in Malawi. Specific Outcomes: Improved knowledge and skills, the training’s beneficiaries gain a deep understanding of price risk management strategies, which they can pass on. The beneficiaries become effective in delivering price risk management education to their peers. As the trainers conduct sessions with farmers and agri-SMEs, the broader community benefits from the adoption of best practices in price risk management and development of strategic approaches to mitigate price volatility. The long-term impact of improved risk management can be seen in the increased financial stability and the profitability for farmers and agri-SMEs. The enhanced ability to withstand price shocks and market fluctuations will be seen. Effective price risk management training can lead to a greater overall stability in the agricultural sector, improved market efficiency and reduced financial vulnerability for the agriculture sector.

IFAD is an IFRS compliant institution and in 2020, IFAD received a AA+ credit rating with Stable Outlook from both Fitch Ratings and Standard & Poor’s, both re-confirmed in 2021 and 2022. The IFRS Foundation Trustees created the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) to respond to an urgent demand for transparent financial-related sustainability disclosures by companies. The ISSB mandate is to develop and issue a comprehensive global baseline of sustainability reporting standards (IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards) for consistent, comparable and high-quality sustainability reporting designed to meet investor needs. IFRS Sustainability Reporting standards (IFRS S1, ‘General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information’; and IFRS S2, ‘Climate-related Disclosures) have been issued in June 2023 for implementation by first year of adoption of the standards. In this respect IFAD has already undertaken steps towards the implementation of such standards. Phase 1 focused on initial assessments, identifying key sustainability metrics, and beginning the integration of IFRS S1 ‘General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information’ and IFRS S2 ‘Climate-related Disclosures’. With a foundation set once implemented by July 2024, Phase 2 aims to complete the implementation, refine processes, and ensure compliance with the new standards effective for 2024. The ultimate objective is to support IFAD to produce the first financial report compliant to IFRS sustainability standards and support IFAD during the second phase as defined above; and therefore support IFAD to be fully compliant including items initially subject to transition relief to achieve the following: Complete Integration: Finalize the incorporation of IFRS S1 and S2 standards into IFAD’s reporting processes. Data Management and Reporting: Enhance data collection methodologies, ensuring robust internal controls and compliance. Training and Capacity Building: Expand training programs to include new standards and reporting requirements for relevant IFAD staff. IFAD is seeking to recruit a qualified a consultancy firm specializing in methane mitigation, agriculture, and climate policy. The selected firm will lead the development of a guidebook as part of IFAD’s initiative to enhance climate resilience among smallholder farmers and reform global food systems through the new Reducing Agricultural Methane Programme (RAMP). The guidebook will be prepared to assist countries to mainstream Global Methane Pledge objectives into NDCs, taking into consideration policy environments, costs involved, institutional capacities, etc. The guidebook will establish a standardized methodology for planning, mainstreaming and costing methane pledges at the national level. The expected duration of the contract is of 6 months. The consultancy firm will be responsible for developing the guidebook, ensuring the inclusion of a standardized methodology to guide countries mainstream methane mitigation to their NDCs, the inclusion of a template for alignment checks, the identification of KPIs, and the drafting and dissemination of knowledge and best practices. The successful bidder will be responsible for managing the project and reporting progress on a monthly basis, collaborating closely with the IFAD team to meet established milestones and timelines.
