The overall objective (outome) of the GIZ "Employment promotion for women for the green transformation in Africa (E4D)" is that the employment and economic situation of women, especially in companies driving the green transformation, has improved. Key outputs are: 1.) Labour market-oriented education and training, 2.) Transition to the labour market, 3.) Employment in value chains, 4.) Competitiveness of start-ups and MSMEs and 5.) Regional scaling of the approaches. E4D"s strategy is to establish partnerships with stakeholders from the public and private sector and civil society that will improve the employment opportunities of women in companies and value chains that are driving the economic transition to an ecologically sustainable and climate-friendly business model. Opportunity-driven and demand-oriented measures will be conducted with individual partner organisation and multi-actor partnerships in the implementation countries Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa with the aim of achieving quantitative employment effects and qualitative, transformative results. The capacity development measures at micro and meso level of implementation- and employment-oriented country measures supplement reform-oriented advisory approaches of bilateral DC projects. E4D focuses on sectors that offer the greatest possible employment effects for women and in which companies, with their products, technologies and/or services, are actively shaping the transition of the economy to an ecologically sustainable, climate-friendly business model (1. Sustainable agriculture and agricultural processing, 2. Blue economy and aquaculture, 3. Renewable energy, 4. Circular economy and waste management, including biomass, 5. Eco-tourism) and on two further sectors in which companies are developing more environmentally-friendly or resource-saving business models (6. Transport/Logistics, 7. Construction). Up to now, E4D incorporates a co-financing agreement with the EU Team Europe Initiative "Investing in Young Businesses in Africa" (TEI IYBA). This initiative supports the business ecosystem and promotes a supportive business and investment climate and business culture, in particular for companies managed by young people and women. It will be implemented by the E4D programme in Kenya and South Africa together with other European partners. The personnel concept of the overall E4D programme comprises one international long-term expert that has the responsibility for the commission of the project. In each of the five E4D implementation countries, 2 international and 4 national long-term experts will be responsible for developing and implementing the country measures in partnership with the private sector and other partner organisations (output 1-4). Four international long-term experts are part of the central steering unit of the regional project and are responsible for the financial and administrative processing and control as well as coordination of the commissioning parties of the multi-donor initiative. Furthermore, four international long-term experts will advise the project teams in the implementation countries on technical matters concerning standardised approaches for employment promotion, gender equality, the green transformation and regional scaling. Two further international long-term experts have overarching responsibility for communication, monitoring and evaluation. Three international and four national long-term experts are already deployed to implement the regional TEI IYBA. There will also be two national long-term experts responsible for implementing the TEI in Kenya and South Africa, and one international long-term expert who will be part of the centrally controlled TEI advisory team.

In the coming years, transport emissions are expected to grow faster than all other sectors due to the increase in the number of cars per capita in Mexico. This growth accounts for several reasons. One of them is the low quality and inefficiency of public transport services, which lack connectivity, have long waiting times, and overcrowded vehicles. Public transport services are often not accessible and inclusive for everyone, as their design leaves behind disabled people, women, children, and other vulnerable groups. Furthermore, public transport is perceived as unsafe, as it is a space where crimes such as muggings, robberies or sexual assaults take place. Finally, the COVID-19 pandemic led more people to use private transport to avoid infection. The shortcomings of the public transport system stand as a major challenge to Mexico's achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and its advancement towards green and competitive cities. To curb the trend towards private motorised transport, it is necessary to implement high-quality, smart, inclusive, and climate-friendly public transport services that make them more attractive than the private car. The strategies published so far to promote sustainable urban mobility are still very general. They also provide little practical guidance to states and municipalities on how to implement sustainable public transport systems. Especially in fast-growing medium-sized cities, knowledge, implementation-oriented capacities, and financing resources are required to carry out improvement measures. In this context, the Mexican and the German Government, through the Secretariat for Agrarian, Land and Urban Development (SEDATU) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), respectively, jointly implement the urban mobility project "Transition towards an integrated, accessible and smart public transport system in Mexico (TranSIT)". TranSIT is a bilateral project and commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany. It has a duration of 3,5 years (09/2022 - 03/2026). The project aims to improve the framework conditions for an accessible, smart, and climate-friendly public transport in Mexico. TranSIT aims to develop solutions at the national and subnational level around three areas: 1) Decision-making tools: Development and improvement of decision-making tools and strengthening of professional competencies of public transport employees in the public and private sector. 2) Demonstration projects: Implementation of demonstration projects to create hands-on experience at the subnational level and empower actors to independently apply further improvements and replicate measures. 3) Knowledge exchange and transfer: Dissemination of experiences and lessons learned from the demonstration projects in exchange networks. The main counterpart of the project is the Mexican Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development (SEDATU). TranSIT works closely with the mobility and transport authorities of the pilot regions in Oaxaca, Yucatan, Puebla and León/Guanajuato, the private sector, NGOs, civil society, and academia on state and subnational levels.

The project "Job partnerships and promotion of small- and medium-sized enterprises in Tunisia II" (JPMF TUN II), implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to promote the creation of decent jobs in the automotive, maritime and aeronautic sector in Tunisia through activities in the following action areas: (i) the creation of job partnerships with domestic and foreign investors, (ii) the promotion of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and (iii) support for the development of these clusters in Tunisia. The project is closely aligned with the government"s industrial strategy and consequently focuses on the Tunisian automotive, maritime and aeronautics sectors, which are three of the government"s priority sectors and among the country"s most dynamic industries. JPMF TUN II focuses on activities at the micro (direct support for enterprises) and meso levels (support for sectoral structures). The project is structured around three outputs that match the project"s action areas: Output 1 ("Business and Invest") aims to improve the conditions for job-creating investments by African and European companies in Tunisia; Output 2 ("African SMEs") aims to improve the capacity of growth-oriented SMEs in Tunisia; Output 3 ("Clusters") aims to improve the entrepreneurial ecosystem for selected growth-oriented clusters in Tunisia. The project is part of BMZ"s Special Initiative on Training and Job Creation and seeks to realize synergies with other parts of the Special Initiative.
