Sbh | School Construction Hamburg, as a state-owned company of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (hereinafter referred to as Sbh), is responsible for planning, building, maintaining and managing school properties in accordance with economic principles, taking school interests into account, and for renting out the more than 400 schools to the Authority for Schools and Vocational Training (bsb). The replacement on Mendelstrasse will involve a major restructuring of the site, including centralization of technology. The building will house administrative areas, a 300-600vt multifunctional vitality kitchen, a cafeteria area and specialist rooms. The spacious cafeteria and common area with stage is a ground-floor assembly area. Two large compartments will be built on the upper floor, with a stairwell core with the necessary corridors between them. Heat will be generated via district heating, and PV panels will be installed on the roof areas. The new building receives funding for climate-friendly new buildings (kfn) and is certified as a DGNB Gold in this context. The selected supporting structure of a wooden beam ceiling with Delta Beam facilitates the construction time and allows for later conversions as well as the use of sustainable building materials.
