Area of application The laser ultrasonic system is to be used to detect defects in hardened CFRP components. The following activities are planned: • Mechanical integration of the laser-ultrasonic system in robots • Software-side integration of the laser-ultrasonic system in robot systems • Testing of large-area and small CFRP components from scientific and industrial production • Testing of components without the use of additional coupling media in addition to air • Measurements in transmission and in Reflection • Research into the automation of contact-free ultrasonic methods • Further development of evaluation methods Requirements for the laser ultrasonic system The system is used in the scientific operation of the Drl-zlp and is therefore planned for flexible use on various components and scenarios. This results in the basic requirement of flexibility in construction and measurement use. One of the important issues here is also the ability to integrate into the robot systems of the ZLP. Materials and component types to be tested: The laser-ultrasonic system is primarily used to test CFRP components. The component requirements are as follows: • Area of the components: Several square centimeters up to large aircraft fuselage shells • Surface shape: Flat and 3D curved • Component thickness: Mm range up to several centimeters • Component types: Manufactured using resin infusion processes, prepreg, thermoplastic components and sandwich components Accuracy requirements: Da The system is used for aerospace components, corresponding accuracies should be achieved. Technical requirements / scope of measurement methods: The laser-ultrasonic system should be able to be operated in 2 different modes: • Transmission, whereby the stimulating laser is on one side of the component and the receiver on the other • Reflection, whereby the stimulating laser and the receiver are on the same side of the component The measurement data must be saved as raw data (voltage versus scanning point) and be readable. Excitation laser and receiver: The technical equipment of the probes should include: • Measurement frequencies: The frequency range should cover a spectrum from 50 to 2000 kHz • Pulse repetition rate: A rate of 400 Hz must be achieved • Safety: Eye-safety of the laser at a distance > 1 m for the unprotected eye • The receiver must be an optical microphone • Data acquisition must be able to take place at a maximum rate of 100 Mhz • Probes must be easily exchangeable and equipped with connectors • The probes are mounted on robots and must be able to withstand accelerations of approx. 2G withstand. The corresponding brackets are not part of the specification. Cylindrical or rectangular probe shapes with a diameter of less than 20 mm are necessary. Measurement software: The measurement hardware must be able to be operated using existing measurement software. The following interfaces are available for this: • 2 X BNC +/- 15 V for probes • 5 V TTL trigger-in • Ethernet Scope of delivery/service The components of the installed system should correspond to the CE standard and the provisions of the Machinery Directive. The Site Is In Augsburg. The following is to be achieved: • Delivery is to take place in 2023 • The system will be set up and tested at the Zlp in Augsburg • The employees will be instructed in its use • The willingness to cooperate in future research projects is desired.
